I don't know about you, but I love starting my days with some yoga and delicious, simple and nourishing breakfast, which seems to be undermined, underrated or skipped altogether these days. With the same tired excuse of lack of time, we try to survive on cup of coffee and some sugary pastries till lunch but it only takes 5 min to prepare nutritious breakfast that would start our day just right. And I know waking up at 5am to bake muffins and quick breads is not in your plans and cereal with cold milk in wintry morning doesn't sound that enticing either, that's why I love oat bran hot cereal. This wholesome meal, full of fiber and protein tastes great with just some fruits, nuts and honey.
Oat Bran Cereal with Dried Cherries and Honey:
- 1/3 cup of oat bran cereal ( I love Bob's Red Mill)
- 1 cup of water
- pinch of salt
- 1 banana sliced and divided
- honey
- shredded coconut
- dried cherries
- chopped pecans(optional)
Enjoy your day.

This really does get the day going. It's structured and nourishing. So, I've gotten this part down, now all I need to do is squeeze in a bit more early rising for the yoga...I love the idea of pecans and shredded coconut in hot cereal. :)
ReplyDeletemmmm this looks good! I've never made hot cereal....I just use those prepackaged oatmeal pouches to go! lol I like the idea of adding coconut and honey :)
ReplyDeleteZahra it only takes few minutes to prepare and tastes sooo much better than prepackaged "goodies".
ReplyDeleteAMUSE-BOUCHE FOR TWO(I love that name) even 10 min of yoga in the morning will do :)
yum! we often have steel cut oats for breakfast around here. i ran out of pecans and need to restock! but we also top with cut up oranges+plain yogurt+maple syrup... i think that's my favorite. here's a quick cook (because of soaking) way to make a batch to keep in the fridge for a few days.
ReplyDeleteI feel so guilty reading about your tasty and healthy breakfast while eating leftover waffles topped with powdered sugar and butter. You are so right that it is not too hard to make a really good breakfast. Thanks for the reminder and for suggesting new cereal toppings.... I LOVE coconut, dried cherries, and pecans. Great combo.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
you have such a great blog! i just love the style of your photos. and bob's oat bran is the best!
ReplyDeleterebecca, I followed your link and I'm sold, I'm going to try steel-cut oats, especially that they can be made ahead,
ReplyDeleteE, with all those yummy suppers you make you can afford eating leftover waffles for breakfast, I'm sure you made them delicious,
carolyn, thank you and thank you for stopping by :)
yes! do give the almonds a try. some crushed sprouted almonds have been filling in for the missing pecans on our oats these past few days. yum!
